Community service: Chocolate Anzac Biscuits

Anzac biscuit recipe found here. Replace 1/4 cup of the flour with cocoa powder et voila, you have a chocolate version. Use the second recipe on the website as the first includes coconut which is heresy.

Mind you, I suppose Chocolate Anzac Biscuits would be considered heretical in some quarters.

I've had to go and look through my cook-books about this somewhat controversial post.
Okay, first : chocolate anzac biscuits. Why would you do that?
And second: Both the Women's Weekly AND the Nursing Mother's Association say coconut. Where is this coconut=heresy stuff coming from?

Not happy, Jan.

I've always thought coconut was essential rather than heretical. Chocolate sounds interesting, although maybe not with coconut as well.

I've never liked anzac biscuits and have always felt heretical for NOT liking them.

So the chance to try them as chocolate? Priceless.

Will report back. Maybe I can be a dinky di Aussie after all.

I'm with stomper girl and mary and just cannot imagine Anzacs without coconut. Although I am considering trialing the with chocolate idea..

I know, as a Kiwi, & half of the 'ANZAC', I should like Anzac bikkies, but I just 'Cant like them', as SG would say!
As to coconut- NO NO NO.
But, on the other hand, since I dont like or eat them it doesnt really matter, & as to chocolate..why not!

I actually love an Anzac biccy with coconut, but I do acknowledge that it may not strictly correct ... makes them a sort of faux Anzac biscuit, but yummy.

Oooooh, you have opened an Aussie can of worms now!!!

Referring to yesterday's post I have to say I would prefer a quiet day at home in the pj's over attending, well just about anything really.

As to Anzac bikkies; I like the juicy version over the crisp version. Maybe the juicy version is one of my mum's innovations. I wouldn't know - biscuits aren't my forte.

i thought the coconut was mandatory? at any rate, i am going to bake some choc ones and will let you know what I think. i have to make a special trip to Whole Foods for golden syrup though.

Seems like we all use the same recipe. I don't think I have ever tasted an Anzac without coconut so I'll have to try them. Many times I have gone to make Anzacs only to find I have run out of coconut now it won't be a problem.
