oh hee! We too have the dreaded mission brown window frames and the old ( now removed) sleep out had the stripey '70's wind out blinds. There is so much I want to change about this house!
Thankyou for adding secrethill to yr links....I am honoured.
Ours were sliders... And you should have seen the curtains... Only those who lived in the '60's could buy lime green scrim ( large netting type fabric inthe '70's and find it attractive...
I grew up with wind-out casements. Lovely when they slipped off their little glides, and you had to have two people to hook them back up. Also, I will add they were a BITCH to sneak out of!
We still have the wind outs but they are some, probably, cheap wood instead of aluminium. They've been painted but every chip reveals the horrid colour underneath just waiting to rear its ugly head!
And Miscellania, I'm relying on them being a bugger to escape through during the girl's teenage years!
this reminds me of my fav, funniest christmas card ever: the front was the typical guy in nightcap, with the quote aboout opening the window, "and threw up the sash..." etc. Inside it says: "Maybe I shouldn't have eaten so much sash..."

It's just not the same is it. Wind out aluminiums don't really lend themselves to the grand gesture.
those windows are hideous. They let through no breeze, and the little windey handle thingy never opens them wide enough.
elecric toothbrushes are THE best. Did you get #3 the one with a water-pick?

I fear for the day when mission brown has been renovated out of existence. It will be sad.
Well now, Mission Brown.... we have just been discussing how ahem, "Nigger Brown" has been PC'd out of existence!! hehe.
Our 80's windows are sliders,- with bitchy little window panes to clean! GRRRR.
If there's one window covering I hate it's the cheap white blinds that DO always stick.
