Rainy, with possible thunderstorms

It's says it's going to rain for the next couple of days.

[Distractedly] Uh huh.

It would be a good time to plant those three enormous bags of cuttings Mrs Rich-Client gave us.

[Not really listening at all] Uh huh.

...

What was it she gave you again?

[Making an effort to concentrate] Um, hellebores and um, yellow lilies.

I head outside, brightening up at the thought of hellebores! Yellow lilies! I call excitedly over my shoulder as I open the door,

What sort of lilies? Day lilies? Tiger lilies? Asiatic?

...

I open the bag of hellebores and find Euphorbia wulfenii.

And the yellow lilies? Bearded iris.

I roll my eyes. And pick up my trowel.

Oh cool, I had to 'google images' on the Euphorbia wulfenii .. and it's something I have yet to identify in my own yard.

I'm not sure if i'm a fan, but it looks ok where it is, and there's nothing to replace it anyway, so it's staying. I don't think it's been enjoying the laundry run-off.

So now I know what it is, I can learn how to care for it !

thanks !

I'll try again - my last comment seemed to implode. I was saying...

I had to do the same as H&B! I don't recognise the plant but there seems to be a number of types. A red hot poker style and some more shrubby versions. The shrubby versions seem to have nice grey/green foliage!

Bulbs don't tend to "work" in my garden as I tend to forget where I've planted them and either dig them up or plant over the top of them ;-)

Oh and your c/kumquat creation looked liked it tasted delicious though.

Am I MEANT to feel this disappointed?

Hmmm, mystery plants dont always delight. But bearded Iris! Yes!

I love and adore bearded iris. Much better than lilies in my book. Or indeed garden.

What a lovely view you have out of your kitchen window, by the way. Your back view is rather enviable too. How wonderful to have that much confidence (quite justified, in your case) in one's bottom. And you eat cakes, too. Quite unfair.

But what did you DO with the trowel?

i gotta say, the irises are pretty, but that wulfenii stuff - um, we call it a weed here. not to mention it gives me nightmares. did you have to pick up your trowel to beat it back into the grave? Or did you have to get a stake for that?

Oh ack! Euphorbia when hellebores were expected...bearded iris are ok though. Depends on colour - and what colour would a person who foisted euphorbia on you donate, I wonder?

oh, I quite like euphorbia (in it's place) but I would be somewhat disappointed if I expected hellebores.

I take it Mr Soup is not the gardener?

Actually, those descriptions were better than ones I'd give...
'yellow things'
'those tall ones with fur'
