I'm not sure I can say I'm refreshed and relaxed, but I'm back from the
It always amazes me how productive I can be when on holiday. I finished up several outstanding knitting projects from the year, embarked upon and finished new ones, read two whole books (an abominable book on Troy, plus Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris) and embarrassed my children by ripping the surfboard from their arms and making enthusiastic but ultimately unsuccessful attempts at standing up while riding in to shore. Great fun, and I don't ever need to do it again thank you very much. Knitting on the beach is more my style. God I'm turning into such an old fart.
And so we begin another year of blogging knitting sewing studying working mothering being. Thank you to everyone who stops by here to read, lurk, comment, look, converse and engage. I feel very very lucky to be a little part of this online community. I love all the observations, the conversations, the participation, the support.

Which abominable Troy book did you read? I just finished an abominable Troy book, too. I almost didn't finish it at all. Was it Peter Akroyd's?
Glad to start another year too! And yes, I just got the Ackroyd book out of the library; if it is abominable, as Telfair says and you intimate, I won't bother.
But I did get a police procedural, set in Australia, by Garry Disher, that is very well written. First time I've read anything by him.

I find boogie boards the way and intende to booggie my way in to very boring old age, no matter what my (to be) horrified child says.

HI I am looking forward to reading your blog now that I have found it. I was wondering if you could tell me the brand, colour name etc for the Lincraft green/blue/purple wool you used for your son's socks. I phoned Lincraft from NZ and they told me they only stock Sullivan's and Lincraft brand sock yarn and they swear there is no green/purple combo in Lincraft. DId you save the colour name for that wool by any chance?? Is it definately LIncraft brand? What do you think of the quality now that they have been washed/worn etc.? I really like the wool as you can probably tell. I've started knitting socks for my 3 year old son and now I am on a roll and all inspired. I've had the same experience with Holeproof and with several incredibly expensive pairs of women's socks for me hence the foray into sock knitting. Have you seen the interweave press book "Favourite Socks" very inspirational. All the best, Zoe.
Hi Zoe, the sock yarn was Lincraft sock yarn and it was in various shades of greens and white, no purple. I have no idea what the name was as I've knitted the socks and thrown away the ballband. The quality is fine -the socks are getting softer with each wash, just like most sock yarns.
