More pictures and slightly more words - updated with winner!

wash2
More laundry.

class 3 pencil cases
Pencil cases knitted by Son #3’s class last year and doled out to four or five mothers to sew up, add a calico lining and a button. This was my lot. A prize to the first person to guess correctly which one is my child’s.

Update: we have a winner! Frogdancer guessed correctly, 12 minutes before the next correct entry from Tut-tut, that Son #3's pencil case is top left. All oranges and reds. Froggie, please email me your details and I'll send you a prize. What, I have no idea. I'll think of something.

(Bonus points go to Stomper and Ilse for their creative comments!).

pipy spinning wheel
The most generous gift ever. And totally out of the blue. She nearly left it on my doorstep but thought she’d better ring first to see if a) I was home [yep] and b) if I wanted it [is the pope Catholic?]. Quite amazing really, because one of my two new year’s resolutions this year was [Re]Learn to Spin. The other was More Hammock Time (hasn’t happened yet …)

Thank you, thank you dear Shula, she’s beautiful. I hope I can do her justice.

Oh, for those wondering, she’s a Pipy. Scroll right down.

rain lanterns
Happy Chinese New Year.

Go on, make a resolution. You know you should.

Lucky duck- that wheel is gorgeous! I'm sure you'll give her a good work out.
As for your boy's knitting, I guess... thinking...
the blue one in the centre with the stripes down the right side?

That first photo just slays me. It is all summer shadows and sunburn - you need to make cards-your photography is awe-inspiring

Oh, your view always makes be take a deep breath and sigh. The photo wit the chinese lanterns is beautiful! Ummm....I'm guessing your son's pencil case is the middle one? Enjoy your spinning!

do you know how happy it makes me? knowing that there is a wheel fairy out in this world? wheeeeeee!!!!!

You made a resolution to relearn to spin.

Well, how about that?

I feel better knowing that she's where she is. I waited for the heart contraction after I handed her over, but it never came.

All good. Enjoy.

And never underestimate the power of a good oil.

I'm guessing top left. Because it's slightly different to the others.

I've got that old song Spinning Wheel... got to go round.... going through my head now.

BTW, you left some fantastic words today. 'Decollotage'... magnificent!

Wow! Aren't you the lucky one. I've been trying to learn on the Louet I got on eBay, but it's giving me a hard time. Someone suggested a Majacraft Suzie instead. Any suggestions? Yours looks like a dream. . .

Knitted case--top left? I'm not the first, but that's my guess too.

Wow, you managed to make laundry beautiful! I love that first photo.

What an amazing gift. Your new wheel is beautiful. Just look at that wood. I love my Louet for spinning, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the beauty of your Pipy.

Which one did your boy knit? Hmmmm, the skinny orangey/red one at the top left?

Could your son's be top left in reds and oranges?

Your washing looks like autumn leaves. Mine just looks like the ironing...

i always love your laundry photographs...and others too, but the laundry shots always make me smile...and i can smell the linens. It is one of the few things i miss about living in a dry climate...the crispness of laundry from the line and how it smells taking it down, then under the hot iron (those shirts and pillow cases etc). And...i am in love with the curl in that passionflower vine from the previous post.

Lucky you! That's an amazing gift! Wish someone would leave one on my doorstep......!

As for your son's pencil case....I'd say top right - don't know why....maybe I just like that one?!!

My first guess was going to be the center one with the nice rainbow stripe because the workmanship and color choices are so fine. But since others have already guessed that one, my next guess is the purple and blue, top right corner. The stripes are perfect. No, strike that. My guess is the one that is buried towards the left with blue, lavender, and purple, and the fanciful red stripe worked in. He strikes me as one who would work in a fanciful red stripe. :) They're all lovely! So far the only aspirations towards using one's hands that my son shows is to bang things violently with whatever object or projectile available.

I am so excited for you about your wheel! Be warned however, spinning is addicting! :) I can't wait to see the product of your hands!! Lovely photograph as well...the pencil cases are adorable!

I'm going for the middle one, too. That's the one my eye was drawn to first.
The wheel is a thing of beauty.

Do you know what would happen if I put my laundry on the line now? It would be stiff as a board...
mmm, come to think of it, that may be an interesting shot.

What a wonderful visitor to find on your doorstep. I'm somewhat envious. I had a go at a friend's wheel a while ago... but I found I wasn't very coordinated, but I'm sure I could learn!
I think It's the orange and pink one at the bottom.

Well, I will not mind doing your laundry, it looks so gorgeous in the picture !
You must be a true artist if you can make laundry look wonderfull ! That's the spirit ! Go for it women !

My goal for this year is also learn how to spin, yes I also got a visit from the wheelfairy (still I had to pay her though!;-)

My guess: your sons case isn't in the picture because its with one of the other five mothers who sewed the cases?

Love the pics!!! I'm guessing that your sons pencilcase is the one on the far top left hand side in orange tones...
Great gift!!! I bought a spinning wheel last year and have been meaning to get around to learning, can't wait to go on this learning curve with you...

Congratulations on your Pipy! What a wonderful gift. I love mine.

If you need any spare bobbins let me know and I'll hook you up with the charming man who made your wheel - he still makes bobbins for them if you ask nicely! His wife taught me to spin and I'll be seeing her in a week or so.

Top right, the one with fewest (indeed, no) visible mistakes.

That breathtaking laundry photo is the direct visual equivalent of a Helen Garner paragraph on the same subject -- the everyday made glorious.

Oh you so need to get yourself a copy of The Good Life (series 1 through 4). I've just re-watched it after 20 years or so - I so love that show - they had a loom toward the end. You can always watch it while hanging in that hammock ;-)

I was going to guess the one with fancy cabling, a bit of ribbing and some knitted fruit covering the button, but I think you've left that one out of the photo.

Ooooo - exciting!

My NY resolution (prompted by reading Brooklyn Tweed) was NOT to start spinning. I need another craft like a migraine. But when I read blogs like Jared and see all the gorgeous stuff people spin I am sorely tempted. Dying to see what you do!

Here's hoping the year of the rat isn't quite as rodentish as is sounds...
