up and out

1 March : births and deaths up the passage

Schools around here are closed tomorrow, dire warnings to LEAVE NOW have been posted on the websites and received via text message (did everyone get that message, or just those in bushfire prone areas?), the car is packed, and we're out of here. Again. And can I just say, I am totally fucking over it?

See you on the other side.

I too am completely fucking over it. Our school isn't closed (3km from the edge of the fire danger zone), I didn't appreciate the text because it went to over two million people and just maybe I dropped my bundle when I got home from work.

See you on the other side and good luck.

I think the text was a Telstra service. Those of us on other networks can suck it, apparently. Take care.

I think the whole of Victoria must have recieved it. I'm with Three Mobile and it came through at about 7PM. Apparently some people in Tassie got it too.

I am still waiting for my message and feeling like the Victorian Police just don't care about me. Everyone at tap tonight except the Vodafone users had received one, as had my sister who was visiting Victoria from Canberra. I've asked Fixit if his motorbike is safe, I'm more than a bit worried about the prospect of 40-60kmh winds.

I feel like the weather gods are punishing Victoria I really do.

Stay safe Suse and soupers.

I hope it passes soon with no further loss of life, property, or wildlife. It's horrendous sounding.

I'm up here thinking about you a lot. I can't imagine what it's like to be so on edge all the time.

I can't begin to imagine what it's like for you and particularly those small soupettes going through this time and again.

I have fingers and toes crossed for you!

do you have a soft and safe place to stay? I hope so. Take care Soup family.

Thinking of you and your family. Here's hoping for everyone's sakes that the warnings are precautionary for something that doesn't happen.

Yes, I got that sms too. My heart sank.

So many of us are thinking of people like you in those precious and beautiful Victorian spots. We're just willing this all to be ok. With all our hearts. Let it just be all over, and with everyone and their homes safe and intact. Enough is enough.
Take care, and all the very best to you and yours.

Dude! Fingers crossed that all goes well and you don't lose any property (and obviously that you all stay safe, yourselves).

A big fire about 40 miles from here over the weekend burned 1,200+ acres of land and destroyed 25 homes. But no serious injuries, thank God. So scary.

Paula said...

I'm send good luck wishes and prayers to you and yours, Suse. My own home almost burned once long, long ago, I know how fearful you are...

We got the text up here in Sydney on our Vodafone phone. It was bought in Melbourne, so that explains it. There was some mild panic though as we thought West Preston may have been about to be consumed by fire but the internet told us Brumby sent msgs to 5 million Victorians (and 2 people in NSW apparently).

Stay safe Soups.

Hopefully that rain I woke up to means the end of all of this soon - take care

Stay safe, and I hope and pray you return to a home that's exactly as you left it!

Yeah, if it's not the threat of fire at the moment, it's the threat of a tree falling on our heads!!

So far away here, can only begin to understand what it must be like, the terror, the fear, the exhaustion, the pain, the loss...the everything that a spoiled person here has never been through.
I can only say that you and your fellow countrymen are in my prayers and sincere hope that this will all be swept away with a cooling spell, some rain..and some god damned respite.

Victoria said...

That must suck especially for the kids. We had a teeny tiny bit of rain today, but it was just a tease, again. Hope you guys are not going too crazy!!!

Valerie s. said...

All the best. Wishing you rain real soon!

Thimbleanna said...

Wow. I'll bet you ARE over it -- that has to be very old by now. I hope all is well and you've been spared -- wishing rain your way.

Isabelle said...

Oh dear, just read this a little while ago. Hope all is well with you, dear Suse and family, and that you get back home soon.

Carole said...

Stay safe, I'm praying for some rain for you all as well.

Let's hope this is the last time this summer. I am so fucking fed up with school closing and getting out and staying away from home and wandering around talking about how we're going to rebuild our lives with only $20K contents insurance (we plan to spend it all on books by the way).

We drove home last night in the beautiful, frightening driving rain. I had hoped it might set in for a few days, but it's gone again today, leaving only a promising dampness behind.

sherry said...

Take care. Stay safe. Wishing for an end to the drought and fires.

Our prayers have been answered... the cooler weather has come and the wind has dropped.Although it may be overdoing it,I'd much rather get a warning text msg here in St Kilda than have people perish due to no warning at all.Last night,my friends in Ferny Creek had their first good night's sleep for a month..hope it's over soon.

I do hope you are all safe Soupers.
Thinking of you, & the bloody horror of it all.

Kirti said...

Yup. Got the message and got out too for the forth time. How very fine is it to be home with the chill in the air and the rain? Smells like something safe. xx

zephyr said...

can't wait to hear that you have returned home and find all safe and secure...and that the winds have changed...i've tried to send you some cooler, moist weather, but it doesn't seem to work.

MsCellania said...

Sending good thoughts and best luck to not only you and your family but all involved.
And big huge hugs to the children, whom are totally freaked by the whole thing, I would imagine.
