midwinter shawl

My very first shawl. I wasn't sure if I would really be a shawl person, but this has decided me. I most definitely am!

wingspan

the throw over the shoulder pose

you can wear it like a kerchief

looking SO thrilled to have a new shawl

out of focus but I like it

Edited to say: as I wrote on the flickr page, excuse my expression in that photo, I was concentrating hard on getting into the right spot before the self timer of the camera went off, and didn't think about smiling or even looking relaxed!.

Also, in answer to RW's question, that is our house I'm standing in front of. It's mudbrick.

The main body of the shawl is a Totem 8ply from the op shop, originally a ghastly beige and dyed by me a variegated olive, and the ruffle is the Bendy 'Rustic' 8ply, in 'Graphite' colourway. The pattern is the Wool Peddler's Shawl, with the lace section replaced with a simple garter ruffle. The Ravelry project page can be found here.

This shawl turned out exactly as I pictured it in my head. How wonderful it is to make a garment that I absolutely love and will get lots of wear from. I am so thrilled with myself.

It's the perfect winter solstice gift.

It's beautiful! Love the olive with the grey/black. Makes me want to make another one (I already made a similar version in grey and brown).

Ooh, lovely solstice pressie to yourself. I'm very partial to olive, and the charcoal sets it off nicely.

I may need one.

how could you not be sure you're a shawl person? A woman more likely to be a shawl person I have never known...

Oh, I love shawls.... and I love when projects turn out just as I envision them! Your shawl is lovely, and I love your hair as well!

That is a spectacular shawl. All the good things about a shawl without any old lady connotations.

I keep seeing gorgeous shawl patterns and wondering if I am a shawl person, and worrying that I am perhaps, when it comes down to it, more of a polar fleece person. However, this morning's spying out the window and speculating on the too-ings and fro-ings next door have me thinking that the Bloke and I might be a bit Miss Rachel from Anne of Green Gables and therefore perhaps we need a shawl. And a knee rug.

Must go get a winter solstice gift for the lad. Fortunately he can't read the calendar.

You look so beautiful in it!!!

You look so 'Anne of Green Gables' in it. But without the red hair.

Beautiful job!

'Tis a lovely piece,
May I ask what you are standing in front of?

That is a perfect version of a simple shawl. I have a shawl that sits on my desk at home to prevent me from turning on the heater in winter.

Shawls are the ultimate shwish flick - the hair flick for grownups.

Your shawl is beautiful, but I am LOVING your hair even more. Divine.

Elegant and slightly 'edgy'. The colours look very dramatic together.

docwitch said...

Love it - completely. I am a total shawl person and that looks close to being an ideal type of shawl. Bloody clever you - hand-dyeing it that divine olive.

Sigh.

hahah, i was just coming over here to say why don't you do a post or something you have been mighty quiet, not that I can talk, and here is this post that must have slipped my attention. And with photos of yourself and everything. I'm clearly not paying enough attention.

Mighty nice shawl. You are endlessly clever and it suits you very well. Quite the model, so slim... If I wore such a thing I think I would look like a sofa in a rug.
