i must have gone to sleep thinking of your last post and dreamed of bali last night! how i love ubud. so glad to see it is still beautiful - my fear was that all the rice paddies along the monkey forest road would be built over. would love to go back soon, but think the double pram may not be a go-er there ...
Oh gosh. These photos make me nostalgic. Husband and I went to Bali for our honeymoon (several weeks after the wedding). We lived in Katherine at the time and after a drive to Darwin (about 3.5 hours) a flight to Bali was only about 2 hours. We stayed in Denpasar which seemed to be full of drunken Australians and then stayed at Ubud which was quiet and beautiful. Oh, married 25 years now. Don't know how that happened! I am hankering after the tropics now.
We got one mosquito bite between us (ie. L, not me) the entire week.
I think because most of the water in Ubud is moving all the time they don't get a chance to breed. All the creeks and streams are fast flowing with all the rain! And the rice paddies are all staffed by ducks and chickens who eat the bugs and slugs. It's the perfect permaculture system really.

It reminds me of trips up to Cairns to visit a friend. Coming out of the airport and into the green. So green, it makes your eyes hurt...

I thought Ireland was green but that's quite definitely the greenest green I've ever seen !
